Community Resiliency Skills/Mental Health
Key Message and Theme:
Building Community Resiliency skills helps individuals and communities manage stress and trauma with "supports" that target the body's central nervous system and promote a "resilient zone" of well-being. The goal is to build trauma-informed communities where individuals can help themselves and others by fostering a common understanding and shared language for stress responses.
What's in Your Resiliency Toolkit?
How do you adapt and manage life's challenges? Your resiliency toolkit are methods that help you foster a state of well-being. Simple actions like taking time to find gratitude for the small things, or taking time to ground yourself, can make a big difference.
Your social support system can help you find relief, or you can use apps like iChill that teach grounding and other resiliency skills, or a social support system can help you find relief. #communityresilienceskills #mentalhealthmatters @orangepartnership
National Suicide Prevention
Key Message and Theme:
Suicide is a major public health concern. More than 48,100 people die by suicide each year in the United States; it is the 11th leading cause of death overall. Suicide is complicated and tragic, but it is often preventable. Evidence indicates that stigma impedes an individual’s chance of seeking professional help for a mental health crisis.
Be the Friend Who Listens:
Starting a conversation about mental health does not need to be uncomfortable, and it can make all the difference. Check out these resources to learn how to support a friend – or get help for yourself.
Help raise awareness by sharing these resources that help others recognize the warning signs for suicide and know how to get help.
Struggles with mental health can take form in different emotions and behaviors. There is a strong link between one’s identity, and mental health and well-being. Experiencing racial discrimination and injustice can have a negative impact on one’s mental health. It can even trigger depression, anxiety and stress.
